چکیده

How we recognize familiar objects when they appear in a non-canonical orientation represents a major undertaking in cognitive psychology. Most research has focused on the varied internal computations involved (e.g., mental rotation). In the present investigation, we report on results from a series of studies aimed at understanding the natural adoption of external, body based solutions while individuals attempt to recognize a disoriented object (e.g., head rotation). We demonstrate that one of the major factors contributing to the selection of an internal or external strategy is stimulus complexity. We also demonstrate large and reliable individual differences in strategy selection. Discussion focuses on the distribution of cognitive effort as a driving factor in the decision to adopt an internal or external strategy and the utility and inherent challenges in studying natural behavior as a means to shed light on this and related issues.

Face Recognition by Cognitive Discriminant Features

Face recognition is still an active pattern analysis topic. Faces have already been treated as objects or textures, but human face recognition system takes a different approach in face recognition. People refer to faces by their most discriminant features. People usually describe faces in sentences like ``She's snub-nosed'' or ``he's got long nose'' or ``he's got round eyes'' and so like. These...

Comparison of Different Targets Used in Augmented Reality Applications in Ubiquitous GIS

Drilling requires accurate information about locations of underground infrastructures or it can cause serious damages. Augmented Reality (AR) as a technology in Ubiquitous GIS (UBIGIS) can be used to visualize underground infrastructures on smartphones. Since smartphone’s sensors do not provide such accuracy, another approaches should be applied. Vision based computer vision systems are well kn...

Induced gamma-band activity is related to the time point of object identification.

Object recognition is subserved by mechanisms that seem to rely on the activity of distributed neural assemblies coordinated by synchronous firing in the gamma-band range (>20 Hz). The present study relied on a novel EEG-compatible plane-rotation paradigm to elicit view-dependent processing leading to delays in the recognition of disoriented objects. The paradigm involved a covert naming task (...

A New Ontology-Based Approach for Human Activity Recognition from GPS Data

Mobile technologies have deployed a variety of Internet–based services via location based services. The adoption of these services by users has led to mammoth amounts of trajectory data. To use these services effectively, analysis of these kinds of data across different application domains is required in order to identify the activities that users might need to do in different places. Researche...

Application of Combined Local Object Based Features and Cluster Fusion for the Behaviors Recognition and Detection of Abnormal Behaviors

In this paper, we propose a novel framework for behaviors recognition and detection of certain types of abnormal behaviors, capable of achieving high detection rates on a variety of real-life scenes. The new proposed approach here is a combination of the location based methods and the object based ones. First, a novel approach is formulated to use optical flow and binary motion video as the loc...
